Our understanding of Autism and what is now commonly known as the "Autistic Spectrum" has changed vastly over recent years, having first been recognised and identified as a disorder as late as the 1940's.
In more recent times the emphasis has been upon developing that understanding and finding ways of "connection" with each individual to enable them to live as normal a life as possible.
This has meant the development of schools dedicated to children with autism as well as increasingly sophisticated methods of integration into main stream education; and in adult life, a commitment to help each individual build an active life as part of the wider community.
Our job as a provider of care services to such individuals is to facilitate this process, by providing staff who understand the nature of this complex condition; who show a true empathy for their clients; and whose reward is the certain knowledge that in some small way they are making a difference.
