Responsible to  Domiciliary Care Manager / Assistant Manager

Purpose of position

  • To ensure the effective delivery of a Domiciliary Care Services within a designated area on a day-to-day basic
  • To supervise and support staff and their service users within a designated area
  • To contribute to the implementation of service developments and operational functions within the Domiciliary Care Service to meet Directorate and corporate policies and objectives

Principal Responsibilities

  1. To co-ordinate and supervise a group of staff and resources, in order to provide a range of Domiciliary Care Services within a designated area

  3. To ensure the service delivery meets the outcome focussed care plan and to participate and contribute to the review process
  4. To provide supervision and support to front line staff, to ensure effective communication is established
  5. To contribute to staff development and staff appraisal process and identification of individual training needs
  6. To be responsible for monitoring and audit of information regarding staff and service users which is relevant and appropriate to the role and compliant with the Data Protection Act
  7. To establish and maintain effective communication and working relationships with colleagues and staff members
  8. To assess Domiciliary Care staff to ensure competent in accordance with nationally agreed standards
  9. To undertake complex environmental Risk Assessments; and contribute to the Moving and Handling assessments process
  10. To participate in the recruitment, selection and induction of staff
  11. To assist with the performance management of staff in compliance with corporate policy
  12. To ensure compliance with The Care Divisions policies and procedures
  13. To contribute to the co-ordination and development and planning and implementation of specialist homecare projects where required
  14. To ensure that administration and monitoring systems are maintained in compliance with all legislation and the maintenance of quality management systems
  15. To work flexibly to meet the needs of the service, including participation in the organisation and staffing of Out of Hours Duty System, providing borough wide support for all staff
  16. To ensure the effective service delivery is maintained
  17. To plan, organise and lead team meetings for staff in a designated area
  18. To contribute and participate in the effective investigation of complaints
  19. To contribute and participate in ones own self-development
  20. To undertake any other duties, appropriate to the post, which may from time to time be required, by the director of adult, community & housing services

Purpose of position

  • Experience of working with Adult Services in a Domiciliary Care setting
  • Understanding of relevant legislation and statutory requirements for the delivery of Social Care

Qualifications Required

NVQ 3 in health and Social Care or willing to undertake NVQ 3 Supervisory and Promoting Independence

Practical Skills

Ability to plan, develop, monitor and effectively evaluate service delivery and care packages

Ability to develop effective working relationships in a multi-functional team

Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing in a clear, concise and accurate manner

Ability to effective time manage in order to meet department targets and prioritise conflicting demands

Ability to challenge others appropriately

Ability to respond to Service Users / demands of service delivery in a flexible manner and organise out of hours rota system

Ability to utilise IT and Microsoft packages
